Hace años leí que quien no hace la pregunta apropiada jamás encontrará la respuesta que busca. Siempre había asociado esta idea a una de mis escritoras favoritas, Carmen Martin Gaite, pero hoy descubro que fue Jonas Salk quien dijo en una ocasión que la respuesta a los problemas ya existe…: todo lo que hay que hacer para descubrirla es formular la pregunta adecuada.
Nada más apropiado para aplicarlo a las aulas.
¿Qué hemos hecho los docentes hasta ahora? Hacer preguntas y esperar que nuestro alumno sea capaz de responderlas. Pero en un mundo en Red, la cuestión ya no estriba en encontrar una respuesta al alcance de Google, sino en hacer la pregunta adecuada. Será la mejor forma de desencadenar la creatividad propia y provocar que aflore la respuesta. una especie de remedo del viejo método socrático.
Las buenas preguntas suponen un estímulo y un regalo. Las buenas preguntas nos ayudan a desarrollar nuestra comprensión, y a menudo revelan problemas que podíamos no haber percibido o en los que de otra manera no habríamos reparado.
Pero no es cuestión de preguntar por preguntar. Hablo de hacer «buenas preguntas». Debemos explicarles a nuestros alumnos que antes de preguntar deben tratar de encontrar la respuesta por ellos mismos. Decirles: «Prepara tu pregunta. Piensa en ella». Como dicen los hackers, «las preguntas precipitadas reciben respuestas precipitadas».
No es suficiente la pedagogía actual; hay que revisar las estructuras y como nos propone Albert Einstein «no dejar de hacerse preguntas». Frente al adormecimiento, la evasión y el desencanto, al menos y, mientras tanto, la búsqueda crítica y la reflexión. Lo que yo llamo la revolución interior, la única manera de cambiar las cosas a nuestro alrededor.
Eduardo Galeano, autor de «Patas arriba. La escuela del mundo al revés», afirma: «Son cosas chiquitas. No acaban con la pobreza, no nos sacan del subdesarrollo, no socializan los medios de producción y de cambio, no expropian la cueva de Alí Babá. Pero quizá desencadenen la alegría de hacer y la traduzcan en actos. Y al fin y al cabo, actuar sobre la realidad y cambiarla, aunque sea un poquito, es la única manera de probar que la realidad es transformable».
